"Swales" is the word
that comes to mind to describe
Southern Dunes. Big, Bermuda-covered,
Saharan-like swales that add
another puncture to the myth
that all central Florida golf
is flat and boring. This fantastic
Steve Smyers course opened in
1993 to much acclaim and has
become one of the most requested
and enjoyable rounds of golf
offered in the area. This upscale,
daily fee facility has received
such awards as GolfWeek's "Top
Courses You Can Play" and
4 1/2 stars from Golf Digest.
The course features dramatic
elevation changes that reach
more than 100 feet on some holes,
and challenges better players
with 7,200+ yards of rolling
terrain.
Fortunately, Smyers designed
the course with the intermediate
player in mind- offering 5 sets
of tees so that golfers of all
skill levels can enjoy this dynamic
layout. For the lower hanidcapper,
the course sets up for classic "risk/reward" opportunities.
Thanks to a layout that often
brings the wind into play, a
strong long iron game is a must
to score well at Southern Dunes,
and the fast, undulating greens
demand acccuracy and a deft touch
with the putter.
Keep this course on your must
play list for that next golf
trip to Orlando. Located only
20 minutes from Disney, this
jewel of central Florida cannot
be missed when visiting the area.
