El Campeon Course:
El Campeón, built in 1926, is one of the south's oldest and most
unique golf courses. The word that comes to mind when describing El Campeon
is “character,” and this course has plenty of it. Course architect
Charles E. Clarke of Troon, Scotland, blended unusual elevation changes
of more than 85 feet with features of traditional golf design- definitely
a unique experience when considering that central Florida is “as
flat as a pancake.” The course features long, rolling fairways and
undulating greens that place an emphasis on good shot making and consistent
iron play, as well as focus when putting. Playable for golfers of all levels,
we feel that the El Campeon course at Mission Inn is a course well worth
the 40-minute drive from downtown Orlando.
It should also be noted that the El Campeon course at Mission Inn hosted
the Ladies’ 2004 NCAA East Regional Final earlier this spring. Yes,
it is that fantastic!
Las Colinas:
Las Colinas, nominated as “Best New Resort Course” by Golf
Digest in 1992, and a recipient of the "Top FairWays" recognition
by Golf for Women, offers players of all abilities quite a different challenge
from El Campeón. Its wide-open fairways and gentle rolling hills
create an inland links design that rewards long, accurate hitters without
punishing the beginner or intermediate player. Greens are large and undulating,
however they are typically consistent and roll true. Better players can
let it fly at Las Colinas, and with consistent iron play and good putting,
one should expect a very good number at the end of the day.
Our favorite aspect of this fantastic facility
is the location. Players will feel as if they
are nowhere near the city in this serene setting,
and we highly recommend adding this resort
to your next golf vacation to Florida.
